Shadow Publishing have just issued The Black Pilgrimage 2: Further Explorations in Supernatural Fiction by Rosemary Pardoe. This offers a new and generous selection of forty-one essays on M R James and Jamesian themes and on contemporary authors in the same tradition or working in the supernatural fiction field more widely.
The volume reprints introductions, reviews, Rosemary’s ‘Lady Wardrop’s Notes’ column for Ghosts & Scholars, and the text of her out-of-print booklet on The Cropton Lane Farm Murders, a true crime Victorian mystery, together with much else.
This is a richly interesting compendium, full of lively discussion, unstuffy erudition, fascinating digressions and unexpected sidelights. It’s the perfect armchair or bedside book for anyone interested in the antiquarian ghost story and its milieu, the byways of weird literature, and the strange and singular.

I was lucky to get Rosemary's Cropton Lane Farm Murders booklet and it was great.
