Fordell Research Unit, the Edinburgh
composer and performer of electronic soundscapes, has recently released a digital album, Pebble Notes, and I was delighted to learn that it includes pieces referencing my
stories, including ‘The Fencing Mask’ and ‘The Great Conflagration at Little
Brydon Cricket Club’. The first of these has a wistful, eerie fragility, while the second conveys an ominous, brittle urgency. There is throughout an otherworldliness and haunting quality to the album.
The Unit has also just added Recorder, with a cover image of a vintage cassette recorder and three evocative titles: 'They Were Once Young', 'Aethir' and 'Wait 'til Eight'.
